I spoke to Wendy's Head of Marketing and went to a Barnes and Noble client meeting today. I have become such the intern power-player. Hilarious.

tha hood..i mean my dorm

Rachel (my roomie) and I share this humble abode. It's really not that bad, just a little lifeless. Although the surroundings are somewhat sad, it seems a bit pointless to spend lots of hard earned dinero for a room I'll only be spending about 8 more weeks in. But here it is, for the whole world to see :)

That's our room, obviously. And the closet is pictured below. There is also a living room, kitchen, and bathroom for just the two of us. We did luck out because everyone else has suite-mates, but it's just us so we have twice the space!

Here's a pic from our window, day and night!

I LOVE MY JOB

really, i love my job.
i've already sat in on 2 brainstorms today and they are so interesting. and the best part is that LIME wants/expects their interns to contribute. we get to share our ideas just like the rest of the employees.

each of the interns have an account. i have quamut.com with my supervisor JO. i'm not allowed to share any detais other than to say THIS IS AWESOME!
yesterday, on my first day of work, i had my first experience hailing (spelling?) a cab...and it definitely wasn't the easiest thing I've ever done.  turns out, a lot of cab drivers don't like to go outside a five block radius or something and kept turning my request to go to 3rd and park avenue down.  eventually someone did pick me up, with all my boxes (i had to run an intern/messenger errand), and got me uptown.

after i finally got a cab, after like half an hour of waiting, i was so stressed out because my boss had said to me to get the package there by 5, it was now 4:45, and place it in the hands of a specific woman.  she didn't say this exactly but had communicated to me not to come back to the office if I didn't get the packages into "Jenny's" hands.  So of course I'm thinkin, "don't get fired on the first day!"

in the end it all worked out, Praise God!, and I'm back at work today.  phew...

so I just found out the account I'll be working on mostly.  i'll have my hand in a few honey pots throughout the summer but this one is #1.

www.quamut.com

It's a how-to website launched/owned by Barnes & Noble. Oh yea, the big bucks come to LIME.  If you are familiar with wikis you'll get it, if not, quamut may seem a little random.  Check it out, it's love at first wiki.

lemon & LIME

First day of work!  Lime PR & Promotions is flippin sweet.  It's on 6th, which means I'm only a block from 5th Avenue... not that I can afford anything on 5th Avenue, but that's beside the point!

The Kirshenbaum Bond office is amazing!  It's so funky and everyone is so nice.  And let me just say, they have a coffee machine that makes all other coffer makers obsolete :)

I have my own desk, computer, even my own set of office supplies (Do you have my stapler?)!  At the moment I'm just getting all my work info and school stuff in my computer's calendar.  And for someone who is not a Mac girl, I could definitely get used to this.

More info to come!

33,000 ft + 1 1/2 days = June 9th, 2008

so wow. A LOT has happened in the past 36 hours. Woke up 4:30 am yesterday, got on a plane, and made my way to New York! So ok, I totally couldn't help but get a little emotional when I had to say bye to the fam. Come on, if ya know me, ya know I'm close to my family.

Once I was on the plane I just waited and waited and waited for us to take off. We cruised at 33,000 ft, according to our pilot. I always love it when they tell you how fast you're going, how high up you are, etc. Quite exhilarating. I think my favorite part of the plane ride was when we landed. We came skidding into JFK and the guy down the aisle from me whispered, "Praise Jesus. We didn't die," followed by a kiss toward the air, presumably Jesus :)

After that I waited some more. My shuttle left me hanging at the airport for nearly an hour but it was ok. I mostly just watched all the different people around me. When they say international airport, they mean international airport! The shuttle was interesting...no one was speaking english. I did my best to make out some landmarks as we came over from Long Island but it's a little difficult for someone who's never been. Going through the tunnel that pops you out in Manhattan was awesome, it was like being transported to another universe (Queens --> Manhattan)! You probably would assume this after seeing movies and such, but New Yorkers honk their horns like there is no tomorrow. Seriously, the sounds of the city are basically characterized by constant honking. Getting my luggage over to NYU was pretty funny. I had more suitcases than hands, as my new friend Laura did, and we struggled and struggled and didn't get very far until 4 guys in suits walked up and offered to help us. It was perfect. Not only did it lighten my load but it was nice to see someone in New York offering to help a girl out!

Then came registration, unpacking, meeting the room mate, a welcome dinner (3 courses and ice breaker games wooooooo!) and then we were free. I really wanted to see Times Square so my friend Angela offered to go with me. As soon as we walked out the lobby it started pouring rain. All day it had been cloudy but this was major storm. We debated going....it was our first night though, there was no way we were letting some thunder and lightning stop us from seeing Time Square!! It was time to suck it up. We made a few wrong turns finding the subway, clearly you can't learn a city like this in 1 afternoon. As we are quickly walking through the rain this huge flash of lightning made an even more huge (and terrifying) clap of thunder happen. Angela and I freaked out. It was hilarious, yet I think both of us feared for our lives for a few moments there...

A short subway ride (by the way, I am a subway natural!) later and we were at 42nd and Broadway and it was BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!! Some told me Times Square is too
overwhelming, but I LOVED IT! It really takes your breath away!

Unfortunately we couldn't stay long because it was gettin late and the subway was about to stop making runs for the day so we headed back. It was the perfect ending to my first day in New York City :)

Today has been a lot of "orienting." Orientation and subway practice. I found out a fellow UODer is interning at Lime with me so we practiced getting to work. It's a little bit trickier with the transfers but we figured it out and made our way to Hudson Square. That's the name of the gorgeous building I'll be working at starting tomorrow at 9am...so flippin excited!
